1) 4/9 Council of Chairs Meeting rescheduled to 4/18
The Monday, April 9th Council of Chairs meeting has been rescheduled
to Wednesday, April 18th from 2:30 to 3:50 in Hill Hall, Room 315.
2) Pay-for-Performance appraisals due May 25th.
A deadline of May 25th has been established for the completion of
Pay-For-Performance appraisals. All appraisals are due to Heidi
Szymanski on that date. If you need additional information please see

3) Images of Muslims in the Western Media - Wednesday, April 11th
"Images of Muslims in the Western Media," Wednesday, April 11, 2:30
to 3:50 in the Dana Room. This program will feature two presentations:
Anisa Mehdi, Emmy-Award winning journalist and documentary filmmaker,
whose work has appeared on ABC, CBS, PBS, and NPR, will give the
following talk: "Why Do You See Us This Way? Arabs and Muslims Question
American News Coverage."
Prof. Jon Cowans of the History Department will give the following
talk, with film clips: "Despots and Dancing Girls: Images of Muslims in
Western Films." The event is co-sponsored by the Muslim Student
Association and the Institute on Ethnicity, Culture, and the Modern
Experience. Refreshments provided. For more information, contact Jon

4) Second International Workshop on Differential Algebra - April
12-13
The Second International Workshop on Differential Algebra and Related
Topics will be held at Rutgers-Newark on April 12-13, 2007, with support
from the NSF, the NSF, and Rutgers University. The organizers include
Professors Li Guo and William Keigher. Further information can be found

5) Constructing Charisma: Fame, Celebrity and Power in 19th Century
Europe - April 12-14
Keynote Address: Thursday, April 12, 2007 5:30 p.m., Dana Room, John
Cotton Dana Library
The culture of celebrity. Exploiting the media. Fans and their idols.
A conference that begins on April 12 at Rutgers-Newark, and then moves
to New York University on April 13-14, will explore these issues and
their origins in European culture. "Constructing Charisma: Fame,
Celebrity and Power in 19th Century Europe" begins with a keynote
lecture by Leo Braudy entitled, "Secular Anointings: Fame, Celebrity,
and Charisma in the First Century of Mass Culture". A university
professor at the University of Southern California, Dr. Braudy is a
distinguished scholar of 17th and 18th century English literature, film
history, American culture and the history of fame.
His lecture will be held at Rutgers-Newark from 5:30-7:00 pm in the
Dana Room, 4th Floor Dana Library, 185 University Avenue with a
reception to follow from 7:00-8:00 pm, at the Paul Robeson Gallery.

6) Purchasing Department hosts Vendor Fair on Thursday, April 19th,
9am-3pm
All Departments, Faculty, and Staff are invited to attend the
Rutgers, Newark Purchasing Department Vendor Fair on Thursday, April 19,
2007 9AM to 3PM at Robeson Campus Center, Multi-Purpose Room. This is a
perfect time to meet the University's Preferred Vendors and their
representatives. Come see the various supplies and services offered as
well as new products and technology. There will also be product
demonstrations and sample items.
