1) New FASN Dean's Office Weekly Announcements and Changes to FASN
E-News and Notes
Welcome to the 1st issue of the FASN Dean's Office Weekly
Announcements. The weekly announcements contain items that the Dean's
Office would like to share with NCAS faculty and staff.
The FASN e-newsletter, FASN E-News & Notes, will now be published on
the first Monday of every month. The deadline for submitting material to
the March 2007 issue is Monday, February 19th. Please see the following

2) Marion Thompson Wright Lecture Series
The 27th Annual Marion Thompson Write Lecture Series will be held on
Saturday, February 17th from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at Paul Robeson Campus
Center. "Time Longer Than Rope: Historical Memory and the Black
Atlantic,"
acknowledges the centrality of memory in understanding the complexity
of African American life after the Civil War, and the role of memory in
societies on the African continent. For additional information about the

3) Required Supervisory Training
The following workshops are for ALL managers and supervisors. These
workshops are being facilitated by administrators of the Office of
Employment Equity, University Human Resources.
PREVENTING WORKPLACE HARASSMENT
These 2-hour workshops cover the university harassment policies, and
your role as a supervisor. (When registering for this workshop, please
indicate date and time selected.)

Afternoon Sessions: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
STAFF DISABILITIES: AN INTERACTIVE PROCESS This is a 2-hour workshop
which covers the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as other areas
of employee disability and health issues which every
supervisor and manager should know about.

All supervisors and managers are strongly urged to register for one
of these workshops, if you have not already attended. Attendance will be

4) Deadline for on-line diploma information filing for May, 2007
graduation
The Deadline for on-line diploma information filing for May, 2007
graduation is Tuesday, February 13th. Students should complete the
diploma application form on the Student Affairs web site at the

5) Career Development Center/Criminal Justice Career Fair
There will be a Career Development Center and Criminal Justice Career
Fair on Wednesday, February 14th from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Roberson
Campus Center Rooms 255-257. For more information see

6) Viewing of the Redesigned Smart Classroom Podium
The Office of Academic Technology invites interested faculty to
Conklin 424 to view and comment on a redesigned smart classroom podium.
This prototype podium was designed based on suggestions made by faculty
on the Smart Classroom Development Committee (2004). The following
sessions are scheduled in Conklin 424:
Wednesday, February 14, 2:30-3:50
Monday, February 19, 11:30-12:50
Anyone wishing to view the podium, but unable to attend one of these
sessions, should contact Joy McDonald (joymcd@newark.rutgers.edu) to
plan an alternate date.
7) New Purchasing Policy
The Office of the Vice President announced the revision of the
University
Purchasing Policy. The revised policy, last updated in 1988, reflects
Rutgers' goal to ensure appropriate stewardship of the university's
resources. The complete policy is available on-line in the University

8) Phone Chains for Inclement Weather
Departments and offices are reminded that they should have phone
chains to notify all faculty and staff in case the campus is closed
because of inclement weather. In case the school is closed or opening is
delayed, the Dean's Office will phone all Department Chairs and Program
Directors and Administrators who, in turn, will be expected to use a
phone chain to notify everyone in their units. Information about campus
