Program Overview

Graduate with "Honors Distinction"
Mission | Location | Letter From Dean

Who We Are: As part of the larger Newark College of Arts and Sciences, The Honors College at Rutgers-Newark allows you to take advantage of all the opportunities offered by one of the country's largest and most well respected research institutions while getting the individual attention, access to faculty and staff, smaller class size, and socially vibrant atmosphere typically found at smaller liberal arts colleges.  Being a part of our Honors College places you  in the best position on campus to sharpen your mind, to broaden your horizons, to develop useful professional skills and contacts, and to play an active and constructive role in the world of which you are a part.

The Benefits:

  • Upon completion of the program, you will receive Honors College Distinction on their transcripts - a great resume builder and the edge you need for graduate school admissions.

  • One-on-one Honors College academic advisement: Expert advice on class choice, major selection, and career direction.

  • Opportunities to make personal connections and network with campus professors, administrators, and city and business leaders.

  • Through our Honors-only courses, an exclusive Honors floor in the dorms, excursions into the Newark and NYC, and exclusive on-campus social events, The Honors College fosters a real sense of community and an intellectual atmosphere typically found only at small liberal arts colleges.

  • Our students are among the most involved in campus-wide organizations and events and often become the most prolific and well-known student leaders on the Rutgers-Newark campus.

  • Consideration for merit-based Honors College only scholarship assistance as well as one-on-one advisement for selecting and applying to outside scholarships such as Rhodes, Barry M. Goldwater, Fulbright and USA Today.

  • Honors students from our campus can expect a 99% success rate in professional and graduate school admissions and job placements.

Our Curriculum:

  • Specifically designed to work in conjunction with the core NCAS General Education Requirements.

  • The invaluable opportunity to work in specialized, cutting edge, intimately sized Honors-only courses.

  • Personalized attention from carefully selected university professors with the best reputations and experience in the most cutting-edge, exciting and interesting research.

  • Special seminars and colloquia taught by leaders from the public and private sectors.

  • Focus on urban issues, professional development and the nurturing of future leaders.

Experiential Learning:

  • The identification and securing of practical experiences outside the classroom.  Opportunities include Internships, Research Positions, Community Outreach and Study Abroad.

  • Individualized resume, cover letter and interview preparation.

  • Full-time Program Coordinator to help make sense of and guide students through the thousands of opportunities available.
